BUNGALOW With origins in India, this simple home style was once available by mail order through Sears & Roebuck. Identified by a low pitched roof with wide overhangs and a welcoming front porch supported by tapered columns, this home style is a close sister to the Craftsman. Windows are typically double-hung and siding material tends to be clapboard or cedar.


MODERN A Modern home features crisp lines used in combination with sleek finishes. Openness and natural light influence the architecture. Therefore, these homes are marked by large windows and clean roof lines.


CRAFTSMAN A Midwestern favorite originating in Southern California, this home is most recognizable by it's signature front porch columns, with a stone or brick base and a tapered top. The roof is low-pitched with wide overhanging eaves and decorative gable beams. Occasionally, some windows feature stained glass. Dormer windows are also indicative of the Craftsman.


TRANSITIONAL This home style combines modern and traditional elements into a cohesive design. It can also be described as classic and contemporary or a new take on an old classics.


MIDCENTURY MODERN When you mention Midcentury Modern, you might hear "Joseph Eichler" in response. A pioneer of the U.S. style, Eichler incorporated oversized windows and an open concept floor plan. Siding is usually stone, glass or brick capped by a flat or gabled roof. Sliding glass doors and double-wide entry doors, in addition to the emphasis on natural light, creates an almost seamless integration between indoors and out.


PRAIRIE Frank Lloyd Wright's Prairie style architecture was born in Chicago, Illinois. The Prairie is one of two styles: boxy and symmetrical or low slung and asymmetrical. Rows of casement windows are set in a brick or clapboard exterior, capped by a low-pitched roof. Stylized floral or circular geometric terra-cotta or masonry ornament doors, windows, and cornices.


PUEBLO Prevalent in the Southwestern United States, Pueblo homes are typically constructed with a stucco or adobe finish on parapet walls with rounded corners. A flat roof offers minimal wind resistance; roof beams may project through the walls. Windows are framed with a straight edge. Earth tones are the color palette of choice, as the Pueblo is designed to become an element of the landscape.


RANCH Lovers of the ranch home affectionately call it a "rambler", referencing the long, rectangular floor plan. Originating in California, this low slung style has a hipped or gable roof with wide overhanging eaves and a brick, wood, or stuccoed exterior finish. Picture windows and sliding glass doors bring sunlight in. Attached garages are the standard with a Ranch home.


FARMHOUSE This style has it's own character. Two stories, porch, soft colors, natural wood and a fireplace often can be found in a Farmhouse. This style has great visual appeal and reminds you of the past. Farmhouse is often a term used to describe function, simplicity and necessity. Interestingly enough, Farmhouse style varies from region to region.


SPANISH ECLECTIC With origins in the Southwestern US and Florida roots, the Spanish Eclectic is characterized by a low-pitched tile roof and a light-colored stucco exterior. Rounded windows and doorways accentuate the facade. Balconies feature elaborate grillwork. The finishing touch is a bell tower, influenced by Spanish missions.


TUDOR The Tudor is an English import. The home of storybooks, the Tudor takes notes from Medieval architecture. With a bricked first story, the second story highlights decorative trim details, often on a wood or stucco background. Steep roof incorporates prominent cross gables. Decorative half-timber adorns the home in addition to traditional casement windows.


VICTORIAN Inspired by French design, a Victorian is one of the most elaborately decorative styles. With a mansard roof and narrow bracketed eaves, the Victorian is a whimsical structure. Wooden clapboard in an array of colors personalizes the exterior, with the addition of tall narrow windows and eyebrow dormers. On of the style signatures is a tower. The style also includes bay windows, balconies, a small entry porch, and wrought-iron galleries above the upper cornice.
